What about the security of the device, will it steal my data?

The short answer is no.

The device itself has no recording capabilities, and it not actually connected to any other devices on your network.

There is a port that needs to be opened on your router/firewall, but that port alone will only connect with the Helium Hotspot, and will not allow access to any other part of your wifi network or personal devices.

You may find that your router is reporting attacks or malicious attacks against your Helium Miner.  This is pretty much standard, as hackers are simply prodding at open ports.  You have nothing to worry about as the security built into the hotspot will take care of that attack.  Usually your ISP will also block those IPs from trying it again anyway.
